Making Decisions

Nathan Ros
Deuteronomy 30:14-19 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

Life is full of decisions! Do you ever think about how many decisions you have to make on a daily basis…what to wear…what to eat…where to spend your time… We make hundreds of decisions daily without even thinking about it. Decisions are a part of life. Granted, some decisions are small and would not take much time or even thought to make. Some decisions are big and would alter your life now as well as and your future.

Someone once said, “The decisions you make today will affect your destiny tomorrow.” Your decisions are important! How are you making these life altering decisions? Are you making them because of friends, culture, money, or because it is easy? Why are you making some of these decisions? The bigger question is, “Are you making God-honoring decisions?”

Let me give you some ways on how to make good sound decisions. I am not talking about a choice of what to eat, I am talking about life-altering decisions: who to marry, what your call in life is, big purchases, where to live or what college to attend. These decisions will affect your life!

1. Make sure you bathe the decision in prayer.

I have spoken to so many people that make big decisions in life and have not prayed about the decision. God is all powerful and He will use the Holy Spirit to lead you as you walk with Him.

2. Make sure the decision you will make is not contrary to God’s Word.

If God’s Word clearly teaches against it, you should NOT do it!!!!!

3. Get wise, Godly counsel before you make the decision.

This is why God has given you a pastor. Counsel with him. Ask his advice. Don’t go get “counsel” and tell him what you will be doing, go ask what he thinks. He has counseled many people and has seen the outcome of these decisions.

4. Don’t make a decision when you are:

·  Physically weak

·  Emotionally drained

·  Spiritually unfit

A preacher put it this way: “Don’t make a decision when your decision maker is broken.”

Decisions are a part of life. We make hundreds daily. Some decisions are small and some are big. Let’s make decisions that honor the Lord and are Bible based. The decisions you make today will determine your destiny tomorrow.
