Whereas Ye Know Not

Ray Pechardo
James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

One of the things that we can all learn from the Pandemic is this: Life is uncertain! Any day, anytime, anywhere, anything can happen to anyone of us. By now, we probably know someone personally whose life had been taken because of this virus. We have heard of and seen different tragedies that affected different types of people, whether young or old. We have seen friends and loved ones still struggling with the devastating effects of this disease.

One lesson we can learn through all these as Christians, is that we don’t have the luxury of being nonchalant in our Christian life. No one is sure about tomorrow. We don’t know if we are still going to be healthy, or if we will be in a hospital bed, or even if we will be alive tomorrow. Because no one is sure about tomorrow! We don’t even know what will happen in an hour, much less in a day, a week, or a month. We may know what we plan to do, but so many things may happen to prevent us because tomorrow is NOT guaranteed! So many people, even Christians (sad to say), try to live their lives like they are going to be here on earth for hundreds of years. They are wasting all their good years chasing earthly goals and personal dreams without thinking much of what really matters in life. They invest so much of their time and energy on this world but have invested and done so little for eternity. They have this mindset of living what their heart desires now and then later on being committed to God!
Let us be reminded, that our life here on earth is very short! The Bible tell us:

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Because we don’t know what will happen tomorrow, let us do whatever we can today! Let us serve God with the best of our ability while we still have the strength. Let us invest in eternity while we still have the resources. Let us share the Gospel to as many people we can while there is still time. Let us live our lives today knowing that tomorrow we might be standing in the presence of our blessed Saviour.
