Success

Nathan Ros
Joshua 1:8 "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."

“Success” is a word that is most often used in the corporate world. Most of the time, people equate success with the amount of money you make, the people who follow you, or the valuable possessions that you accumulate. “Success” is pushed and preached by the world!

Some would even go as far as to say, “It doesn’t matter how you get success, just get it! It doesn’t matter whom you have to climb over, just get it!” So many people, saved and unsaved, are trying to “climb the ladder of success,” just to find out when they are up at the top that it does not bring the joy and fulfillment they thought it would bring.

So what does the Bible say about success? Can we as God’s people obtain it? The simple answer is YES!!!! The success that the Bible defines is certainly not the same as the success the world defines.  Jesus said in John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” So how do we obtain Biblical success? Where does it come from? Joshua gives us the “secret.” In Joshua 1:8 the Bible says, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

So what do we need to do? First, the Bible commands us to get into His Word. Not only should we read it, but we should also meditate on it constantly!  As God’s people, we should have a set place and time where we can meet with the Lord, speak to Him, and allow His Word to speak to us. God’s Word brings success when we learn how to live and see the world through His eyes.

Success doesn’t stop at getting into God’s Word. There is a second part to it: “that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein.” The word “observe” literally means “to inspect.” We as Christians must inspect carefully what the Bible says, meditate on it, and then DO what is written in it! The Bible says in John 1:22, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…”

Success comes by knowing and doing what God’s Word says! I want to challenge you to, first, get into God’s Word daily and have a walk with Him. Then, what God has given to you from His Word, live it. You will not find true success until you “Live God’s Word.”
