Spiritual Reset Button

Ray Pechardo

Philippians 3:13-14  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Have you ever wished for a reset button in your personal life, business or maybe in our nation– where past mistakes could be wiped away in favor of a blank slate?
There’s nothing like a new year, where we can have a new start, a new beginning; a time to make new goals and commitments. There are new opportunities and events to anticipate. We have another year in which to make precious memories with our family and most of all to do more for the Lord!

Here are some reasons why we need a reset button in our Christian life:

1. A reset button gives us a fresh start!

Philippians 3:13 …forgetting those things which are behind,

In evaluating our life this past year, if we are honest, there are so many things that we would all wish we should change! We may have done things that we regret doing. We made foolish decisions that we are reaping the wrong consequences or things that happened that we were not expecting. Whatever it may be, let us learn from the past and let us move on! There is really nothing we can do about the past mistakes and failures, but we can learn from it so we don’t have to make the same mistakes, and we can work on making the right choices in the future.

2. It helps us to get back in the right focus.

Philippians 3:13 …but this one thing I do,…, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Because of the pandemic this past year, most of our focus has been shifted! Our lives have all been altered. Many have lost their jobs, schools had to resort to online classes and our church had limited services and fellowships! Whether we know it or not, all these changes will have a negative effect on all of us. A spiritual reset button will help us to get our mind back to what God has called us to do. The greatest commandments of loving God and others has not changed! God still commands us to love Him with all of our heart, mind, and soul! He wants us to love our neighbor as ourself! Let us get back to loving others, serving Him, and winning the lost to Christ.

3. It reminds us of our purpose in life.

Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

God has a plan and purpose for each one of us. Whatever level you are in your Christian life, one thing is for sure, God wants us to be a faithful steward of all that He has entrusted to us. A spiritual reset button will help remind us of that purpose! Our life should never be about acquiring things, pursuing pleasures, or pleasing ourselves. It is all about pleasing our Master! When it’s all said and done, our goal should be to hear the words, “Well done thou good and faithful servant”!
The spiritual reset button comes from Christ. It is the fruit of our close fellowship with Him through daily prayer and obedience to His Word. Having a daily devotional life will get us back to having the right priorities. I hope that as Christians we will all desire to have a better and closer relationship with Christ this new year!
