2 Peter 1:3-4 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: v.4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Have you ever tried putting something together without using the instruction manual? We all have probably done it only to end up with a few extra parts and screws. Then we turn to the instruction manual to see what we did wrong.

There are some things in life that do not come with a manual!  Without any instructions, it is difficult to know how, when, and what to do. Thank God that He did not leave us here on earth to live the Christian life without a manual! The Bible is our manual for life.

1. The Bible as a Handbook

2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

It has the answers to all of life’s questions. Whether it’s about marriage, child-rearing, relationships, or finances, the Bible teaches us what we need to do.  It always gives the right approach and right actions as well as instructions on how to be successful.

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

It also teaches us how to build our life on a solid foundation. Problems are a part of daily life. If we are not building our life on the Word of God, we will experience major defeat and disaster.

Matthew 7:24-25 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: v.25  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

As a handbook, it gives us the key to God’s blessing. Whenever we make Him our priority in life, we can always expect His blessings.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

2. Bible as a Rulebook

2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

It gives us strict guidelines on how to live the Christian life. God is a holy God and He wants us to live a separated life from this world. Our lifestyle should always line up with what the Bible says.

1 Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; v.16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

The Bible contains all the warnings and punishments when we break the rules! The rules are there to help us, not to hurt us. Breaking the rules has built-in consequences.

Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: v.17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

James 1:14-15  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. v.15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

3. The Bible as a Guidebook

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

2 Peter 1:19  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Proverbs 4:18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

The Bible contains all the information we need to finish our race well. It guides us to avoid detours and hazards along life’s way. That is why every Christian should constantly be checking the guidebook.

4. The Bible as a treasure book

2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

It’s filled with promises for our daily living. The Bible is filled with so many precious promises so that we can enjoy the Christian life. He promises His presence to those that truly seek Him. He gives protection to those who trust Him, and He always takes care of those who step out by faith.
