It is None of Our Business

Proverbs 26:17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

Proverb 20:3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

If you were walking in your neighborhood and happened to pass by a dog, would you grab it by the ears?  Of course not. That would be extremely dangerous!  Grabbing a dog by the ears is a really bad idea and will result in an unnecessary hospital visit that will probably include a shot with a very long needle. :-)

As Christians, we should have a set of guidelines that we strive to follow. Living by Biblical principles is a sure way to enjoy the Christian life! Most of the problems we face is because we fail to apply God’s principles in our life. The Bible gives us very important principles to live by.

God has given each one of us areas to judge within our own jurisdiction.

Colossians 3:18-20 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

According to Colossians 3:18-20, a husband’s role is to love his wife, the wife should submit to her own husband, and the children ought to be obedient to their parents in all things. Each one has a responsibility to fulfill within the jurisdiction of their family.

A pastor of a church is responsible in feeding, protecting, and leading the people. The people in return should honor and respect the spiritual leader that God has placed in His church.

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Hebrews 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Every Christian has an area to judge and must judge rightly.

John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Deuteronomy 16:18-19 Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment. Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

We should not get involved if it is outside our area of jurisdiction. Sometimes we try to help people out of a right motive only to end up being misunderstood. Why is that? Because we cannot help a person if they don’t want help. This is the main reason why people get into conflicts. You will always cause problems if you like getting into other people’s business!

Proverbs 26:17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

This is what Proverbs 26:17 is saying: Grabbing a dog by the ear is never a good idea! It will always cause unnecessary problems, troubles, and pains. The Bible tells us that a wise person will delight in avoiding conflicts.  This is how we can live in harmony with one another! By not getting into other people’s business, we can avoid unnecessary conflict.

We all have things that we need to deal with on a regular basis, and unless someone ask for our help, we don’t need to be meddling with other people’s affairs—it’s none of our business!
